Sancerre For All Seasons

Sancerre, the king of the "central vineyards", geographically straddles The Loire and Burgundy.  It shares a very unique type of soil with Chablis called Kimmeridgian limestone and clay, which is only found in three places in the world (the 3rd is in Scotland).

Kimmeridgian (mostly crushed seashells and remnants of marine creatures from the Jurassic era- yum!) lends a distinct minerality that distinguishes Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes grown in Sancerre from any other region in the world.

One of our favorite producer of all things Sancerre, Lucien Crochet, makes an excellent Sancerre Blanc and Sancerre Rouge.  We love the Sancerre Blanc with our Grilled Octopus or Vongole pasta.  The Rouge is versatile enough to go with something as light as the Rocket Salad or as rich as a steak.
